Introduction...
I have a formal background in Art & Illustration and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. I worked thru various creative jobs until 1998 when my first child was born. At that time I started painting "art for children".... for my daughter’s room, and gifts for friends and family. Four months later I was pregnant with baby number two, and quickly realized I wouldn’t be re-entering the job scene any time soon! I created a studio in our dining room and started to design a line of original art. Soon I began selling to local designers and baby boutiques in Chicago... and drooz studio was born.
Satisfaction...
"Creating" has always been my favorite thing to do. For me, "happiness" is drawing, painting and just simply "making things". Piles of ribbons, beads, paints, paper, fabric, books and magazines surround me at all times! As a "little girl" I liked to make jewelry from foil, build additions for my dollhouse out of shoe boxes, sew tiny pillows for my baby dolls, and decorate my sneakers with bubblegum wrappers.
Today as a "grown-up girl" I have just as much fun! Collaborating with new mommies to help bring enchantment to a new nursery, designing a special piece for a surprise baby shower gift, working with toddler sisters that share a room to create a painting they both love... I am inspired by my children, and their growing and ever changing interests. I continue to discover, everyday, new ways to express my love of creating and decorating.
This is drooz....
Fascination...
scraps of ribbons, glitter, glass beads, polka dots, business cards, flea markets, thrift stores, attics, satin fabric, anything PINK, fairy wings, the craft cupboard and fishing lures.
Inspiration...
happy children, pretty places, parties full of friends, nursery rhymes & vintage picture books, lucky pennies, the smell of a rose, a birthday wish, a fancy new outfit, and a new box of crayons.
Exhilaration...
flipping thru magazines, family chaos, rainy days, listening to my children tell a story, iced coffee and oatmeal cookies, fingers dusted with sidewalk chalk, and the way a puppy stretches after a good nap.
Gratification...
To Mom & Dad: For always being there – whether to watch the kids, walk the dogs or plow the snow. For giving me an eye for detail and an edge of stubbornness. For always showering me with compliments and praise –enabling me to believe I could do anything.
To Chloe & Clark: For your delightfully detailed stories, inspiration and sense of adventure. For always sharing your crayons with mommy (even when she doesn’t want to share hers!)
To Marc: For your never ending patience. For your amazing design & creative wizardry. And most importantly.. for your insight and encouragement. Fortune "does" favor the brave.
